If you like how fast Monefy is but want real category budgets, a budget that starts on payday and a way to log a purchase without tapping in numbers, SimplifyPocket is a Monefy alternative built for that. Monefy is a quick, free-to-start tracker, so here's a fair look at what each app does and who each one suits.
What is Monefy?
Monefy is an expense tracker from Reflective Technologies ApS. On the US App Store it's listed as Monefy: Bills & Money Tracker, and on Google Play as Monefy: Money & Budget App, where it shows more than 10 million downloads.
Speed is the whole pitch. Monefy's website says it lets you "record any purchase in two taps," and the App Store listing says you don't need to fill in anything except the amount. Its store listings also describe:
- A chart of your spending by category, plus a records list
- Default categories you can change, and a report period you choose
- Recurring records (the website says recurring transactions are part of the paid upgrade)
- Multi-currency support (the website says 150+ currencies and 25+ languages)
- Multiple accounts and a built-in calculator
- Passcode protection
- Sync through your own Google Drive or Dropbox account
- A "budget planner" and a "bill organizer" for recurring payments, plus home-screen widgets and one-click backup and export (on its Google Play listing)
Is Monefy free?
The core app is. Monefy's FAQ says "the core app is completely free," and that an optional upgrade "unlocks unlimited accounts, recurring transactions, advanced filters and more."
The website doesn't list prices. As of October 2026, the US App Store says Premium is an auto-renewing subscription and lists "Monefy Premium" at $59.99, without saying what period that covers. Google Play shows in-app items from $2.49 to $59.99. Check the price inside the app before you buy.
Does Monefy connect to your bank?
No. Monefy's FAQ says you can "import statements manually or add expenses in seconds, no bank login required," and that your data stays on your device or in your own Google Drive or Dropbox. If you want to keep your bank login out of a budgeting app, Monefy and SimplifyPocket agree on that. Our guide to budgeting without linking your bank explains why some people prefer it.
Why look for a Monefy alternative?
Monefy is good at the moment of logging. People usually start looking when they want more from what happens after:
- You want to see what's left, category by category. A chart tells you where money went. A budget per category tells you how much is left for groceries before payday.
- Your month doesn't start on the 1st. If you're paid monthly on the 15th, a calendar month splits one paycheck across two budgets.
- You want bills counted before they hit. Rent due next week still counts against what you can spend today.
- Typing an amount is still typing. Two taps is fast, but you still have to open the app, find the category and key in the number at the register.
How SimplifyPocket works instead
SimplifyPocket never connects to your bank either. You add spending when it happens:
- Say it. Tap the mic and say "twelve dollars lunch." The app turns it into a transaction for you to confirm. More on that in adding expenses by voice.
- Scan it. Scan a receipt, a bill, a bank screenshot or a statement PDF and review what it pulls out.
- Type it. Enter it by hand when that's quicker.
Then the budgeting part:
- A budget per category, so you see "$76 left" in Groceries, not just a slice of a chart.
- A budget cycle that starts on payday. If you're paid monthly, pick that day instead of the 1st. Our post on budgeting by pay period explains why that matches real life better.
- Left to spend. Add your income and schedule your bills and paychecks, and the home screen shows what's left this cycle after the bills still due. Scheduled transactions add themselves on the day.
- A widget on your iPhone or Android home screen that shows Left to spend.
To budget with a partner, one of you opens Settings → Household and invites the other by email. Once they accept, you share the transactions and budgets you each add from then on, and one subscription covers both of you.

The trade-offs to know before you switch:
- No free tier. Monefy's core app is free. SimplifyPocket is paid after the 3-day trial: $2.99 a month or $14.99 a year. The US App Store shows Monefy Premium at $59.99 but doesn't say what period that covers, so compare inside each app before you decide.
- One currency. If you track spending in several currencies, Monefy handles that and SimplifyPocket doesn't.
- No export or passcode lock. Monefy offers both. SimplifyPocket doesn't today.
- Your data lives on our servers. Monefy keeps data on your device or in your own cloud storage. SimplifyPocket stores your entries in your account so you and a partner can share them.
Which one should you choose?
Choose Monefy if you mainly want fast, free logging and a chart of where money goes, you need several currencies, or you want your data kept in your own Google Drive or Dropbox.
Choose SimplifyPocket if you want to know how much is left in each category before payday, your bills should count before they hit, and you'd rather say or scan a purchase than type it. See what's included.
